Reflection

This activity really opened my eyes to how different every child’s life can be. Each child has a different story to tell, as was evident in my interview with someone from England. I was raised with school coming first and sports being my choice and my interviewee was raise with soccer being the first priority. My classroom is full of students from different backgrounds, and through the creation of my resources, I realized how often parents and teachers should be communicating. From the open house before school even begins, a teacher needs to establish that connection with parents in order to support the child’s success. If parent involvement is going to happen in the classroom and throughout the school, then they need to feel like they are a trusted and respected member of that school. With that occurring, then parents, children, and teachers will be happier at school because they will be seen as a united front of equals that are working together to help the children succeed and be happy.
